Esrola is an Imperial world with a strong military tradition. Located in Loki Sector in the Segmentum Tempestus, Esrola is close to the frontier with the ork-controlled Charadon region, and its regiments, particularly the famed Golden Lancer Rough Rider division, played an important role in the conflict with Waaaa-Snagrod. Esrolan culture is hierarchical, militaristic, pious and traditionalistic. An entrenched class of wealthy landowners provides both the planetary aristocracy and the officer corps. Traditionally, Esrola is a matriarchal culture, and although legal equality has been the rule for centuries, these traditions still play an important role in Esrolan attitudes.
History
Esrola was settled by Imperial Guard veterans after the Age of Apostasy in M36. The land grants awarded to these settlers, who came from all-female regiments, created a military aristocracy. The settlers married locals but maintained a tradition of female inheritance.
