Name: Ambrose Cordell Tollman
Dynasty: House Tollman
Notable Traits: Unnaturally youthful for a man of his age, excessive hat.
Titles: Lord Captain, Inquisitor (Excommunicate), Preceptor, Magir, Sentinel of Arkangel, Nemesis of Daemonkind, Architect of Slaughter.
Information Known by Arkangel Society
Tollman has been operating in and out of Arkangel for some time now, having an association with the fortress-port that goes back even before the onset of the Hypatian Crusade. It is widely rumoured that the Lord Captain was once an Inquisitor and has had something of rocky history with the powers that were on Arkangel. Tollman is well known for keeping strange company and for being a collector of stranger artefacts. Known to be an expert in numerous occult matters and disciplines, Lord Captain Tollman is often hired by other Dynasties in order to assist with the resolution of various unconventional problems. Supposedly, Tollman undertakes some sort of obscure duty linked to the protection of Arkangel and is well compensated by the station for such.
Lineage
- The son and heir of no one of particular import
Known Associates
Rumours
- Tollman was once a member of the Inquisition and perhaps still is.
- Was once apparently kicked off Arkangel for exposing a Genestealer cult in the hull.
- Has a favoured Xenos consort
- Is often seen in the company of Dark Eldar women. Maybe that's his fetish.
- The Tollman eye-roll is an institution.
Quotes
- "I know men like you, the way you know men like me and I know you would not have done this if you believed there was the least chance of it coming back on you. Well guess what? It has come back on you like the hand of Him on the Throne." - Tollman to a suspect during interrogation
- "For a guy who quit his job in the secret police to become a space pirate, Tollman is a real solid citizen. I owe him one, in a non-binding kind of way." - Mac
- "One of my oldest and only surviving friends, of Lord-Captain Ambrose Tollman I say only this: you will rarely meet a Champion of the Most-Holy God-Emperor so brutalised by tribulations and terrors, and yet also so undefeated by them. In Tollman's steadfast nature, there are lessons of betterment for us all to heed, regardless of our station." - Augustronomos Corophasian-Ingamar-Vicher, Navis-Scion of the House Corophasian.
- "Tollman is the keystone of Arkangel. Without his wisdom and fortitude, I fear we would all surely crumble." - Thunder
- "A good man, he has a dark past that has torn apart his soul and still he carries on helping others. I do not think I could be the same in his place." - Maximillion
- "We have our uses for each other." -Ed'wari
- "Tollman needs to learn to trust so he can teach. Otherwise what will happen if he dies? Very kind to me and very cold at the same time. He has done many hard things because he did not want other people to have to, and he is wounded by that." - Skyfall
- "Terrifying fellow! suppose that makes sense though given his life, still, I wouldn't want to cross wits or weapons with him." - Cartwright
- "I'm just sayin, I called it. Only met him a couple times when it happened, but they said he was going psyker - which, I like the bloke and all, usually, but that was fuckin' karma - and right away I was like 'telepath'. He's just the type, y'know?" - Spider
- "Stomping around in his big coat and his big hat and big boots... and yet to see him do anything. Heard a lot, though." - Araq
- "Not sure I'd trust an ex-Inquisitor completely but he's put the hard graft in for the people around him so maybe he's not all bad." - Rusev
- "An interesting man with an interesting past, though I must admit I care less about that than I do about what he intends to do from here on in." - Lord-Captain Sireena Jocasta of the Blood of House Cerastes
- "In another life he might have been a true enemy. Lucky for us both we are not living our old lives." - Arkady Borovich
- "Tollman is man who has seen many things, not all good. Maybe this is why he surrounds him with interesting comrades. However, he is effective in what he does, that at least should be respected." - Magos Karchev
- "I may not always like him, but I trust him implicitly and will follow where he leads. That would be the case even if he were not my Lord-Captain." - Friedrich Sternenlicht
- "I won't do to you what they do." - Erasmus Bloom
- "I'm going to owe Tollman a great deal by the time we get Victrix back, I'm thankful for his help, his experience in these matters will light the way" - Cartwright
- "OK, revision time... seems to know how to get shit done, and not care much about anything unrelated to what he wants to see done. I wonder, what has he been through to have such ruthless respect for his own time?" - Araquiel
- "He knew the real enemy when it presented itself and put it down like the dog it was." - Rusev
- "Our bond transcends mere oath. I respect and trust him and I have promises to keep." - Ed'wari
- "I understand him, how you could grow to be like he is, I wish I did not." - Maximillion
- "He has shown the ruthlessness of a Commissar and the skill set of a Black Ops officer. It is a good thing he working with us." - Oberarzt Azrael Schwarzekappel
- "We looked across our plane together and saw hatred and cruelty, and wept. For with a portion of these gifts we would make a better place for all." - Ed'wari
- "Every time I see him he is giving something else of himself to the cause of archangel, I can only hope that when he has given his last I am there to pick him up." - Maximillion
- "I will treasure the apology for longer than most would think. But nothing shown dissuaded me from choosing to follow him." - Friedrich Sternenlicht
- "Honest to God-Emperor terrifying and you'd never dare tease him to his face. But also really sad, like a man who already fell apart at the seams but felt compelled to stick himself roughly back together because no-one else would. Sky tells me he's going to die in fire and horror. I'm not at all sure if he actually _wants_ to or not. Would he be angry if people saved him, or does he secretly want them to but is too proud to say it?" - Artemisia Minerva Tabbris Blair
- "A better soul than even he himself realises." - Thunder
- "I am glad he did not join us down on the planet, I think he would have found the end he is searching for." - Maximillion
- "I have no idea where he was this landing but I'm sure someone was having a very very unlucky day" - Col.-Surgeon Azrael Schwarzekappel
- "He dealt me the Emperors Tarot, I cannot say I am not disquieted by his accuracy nor the predictions he made... " - X.O. Azrael Schwarzekappel
- "Farseer would be jealous of his pinpoint accuracy in reading individuals and fates." - Ed'wari
- "He understands the tapestry of fate, even when his answers are not the ones we want to hear." - Rusev
- "I was expecting he'd read me something unpleasant. I wasn't expecting to be OK with that." - Lord Captain Macharius Malvoisin
- "He read me my tarot to me and it was like I was looking at a book of what had come and I can only assume what will be. I will be thinking on this for a while." - Maximillion
- "Sure, i've had Tarot readings before, always a couple of "Truthseers" and the like, who will read for a couple of Thrones in the Baggage Train. This was different, this had power behind it." - Cartwright
- "Whatever has taken him from us, he is Tribe. Like it or not. My brother is lost, without a home he can see the way back to. And we are the Drifter Fleet. We know what we must do." - Spider
- "P-01-13.20-15: Tollman. The Lord Captain is without dispute a popular and central pillar to Archangel. His merits speak volumes and he is a vanguard against the tainted Evils. That does not mean I like him, I do not. His life has left him bitter and callous. I do not blame him for it, but I fear. We must prepare for the worst - when he too will fall." - Florentius Sweetwater
- "Interesting fellow, an inquisitor that doesn't bolt people for any misdemeanour... Didn't think was possible, heard him muttering threats under his breath while looking at me though, so might have to stay clear..." - Decius Crane
- "More and more, it's the suffering that comes through when you look at him. You hate to see it, but how do you help something like that? Where do you even start?" - Mac
- "Everyone seems to find him simultaneously formidable, exasperating, and potentially troublesome. I'm taking notes." - Stacy
- "Darker times are coming. But still I march behind him." - Friedrich Sternenlicht
- "I don't know what that planet did to him, but to hear him weep... it makes me become concerned for things to come" - Azrael Schwarzekappel
- "Even the ghosts of Cherno would not break this man like that." - Rusev
- "One day, I hope to have earned your trust. Because I fear what may come, one day, and I'm not sure many could help." - Stenberg
- "Deep down, there is kindness. I think he just wants to be better than before, but his duties afford no softness, nor sweetness, nor weakness. He is plagued by before, yet wiser for it." Anahita
- "In the quiet moments, when he talks of old companions, you can see a bit of why he keeps going come through." - Maximillion
- "There was a weight upon him this past landing, I do not know where it came from or if it has always been there but hidden, in either case it is a degree of humanity not expected from someone with his past" - Azrael Schwarzekappel
- "Seen people like that before, If he was a Trooper I'd have him assigned to the rear and given some long R&R. Probably wouldn't change a thing in his case mind" - Cartwright
- "Who among us would be so bold as to claim to be his peer?" - Ed'wari
- "Maybe he wouldn't be the first person you think of when assembling a posse for a gunfight. But when that fight is with a cult of the Ruinous Powers - Who ya gonna call?" - Sgt. Iago Lennon
- "The Questions he makes us consider have no easy answers. Good. Those topics should not be easy." - Lord-Captain Romeles Uriel Corinthian Blair

- "He needs to get out of the line. That's what you do, if you can; get out of the line and live life for a while. But does he have a life to live other than this? Does he think he *can* have one?" - Lord-Captain Macharius Malvoisin
- "It is proving very interesting seeing where his lines are drawn, and his will to bring 'resources' to bear within and around that. Very interesting... and worthy of note." - Stenberg
- "Av had many a horrible Boss in ma time as an Ork. Each nastier and meaner than the last. But none so cunning as Big Boss Tollman...and he's up for an 'ek of a scrap too!" - Wruturd
- "I find I have... many things I could now think, could feel, relating to this man. One thing in particular towers over the rest, however - and toward that noble end, I will stand beside him on every opportunity offered. And the nature of that end would, I suspect, not be one many would guess at. I doubt I ever would have." - Stenberg
- "I will find you in the ocean. I will drag you to the shore." - Ed'wari

- "I have little knowledge of his world, but I know of Duty. I think the duties he has placed upon himself are far more terrible than most of us can imagine. Owed or not, I shall never hesitate to help him with such things. " - Cartwright
- "I think I saw a spark of hope in him. It was good to see." - Maximillion
- "Wait wait wait! Hes called Ambrose?" - Slate "Scrapjack" Duster

- "What more can you say to someone who offered to teach you to spell your own name?" - Slate "Scrapjack" Duster
- "The only Rogue Trader on Arkangel older than me. He has offered me some helpful words of wisdom recently. His council is not something to be discarded lightly" - Tomas J Rexuz

- "And it was one of your offhand comments... that was the most heartening to hear." - Archbishop Stenberg
- " Yes, I bought yet another reading. He once told me they were quite taxing to do. So this time, I bought it so no-one else could, and I'll ask him, would he prefer to do the reading, or would he just like some tea and some cake, and no expectation of having to provide anything taxing. If he said yes to that, that'd be worth what I paid for the reading a hundred times over." - Artemisia Minerva Tabbris Blair
